Lock down learning...

It’s been a week since we went into partial lock down. At first, I was very nervous and struggled to get into a routine. Earlier this week I did a timetable with structure for my day and it really helped. I’ve learned many things in the last week with all this time to reflect. I thought I may as well share them!

1. There are amazing people in the world. The way communities and people have pulled together has been great. Healthcare workers I can only describe as angels. I’ve always thought very highly of our healthcare workers with personal experiences but to see them go in to what is essentially a battle field, must be such a scary thing to do and they are doing it for the greater good, it is truly amazing and inspiring.

2. A minority of people really don’t think their actions makes a difference even when the world is going into lock down and telling them it does, it just makes me so sad. Not only for the current crisis but for the future and other looming issues that face us. We’ve made sure to get out for a walk every day but now I’m even afraid to do that. The amount of people that keep coughing and sneezing as you just walk past them without covering their mouths is shocking. The friend groups who keep meeting up every day even though they’ve been repeatedly told not to. I just don’t know what it takes to get some people to listen and understand the impact their actions have on others.

3. I don’t make enough time for myself. I’m sure we’ve all realised we have so much time now and we were a bit unsure what to do with it. We are so busy making plans, it really shows how much we don’t slow down and take time out. It shouldn’t be abnormal to be spending time with ourselves and we shouldn’t feel so uneasy about it. I’ve definitely been enjoying the slower pace of life.

4. The amount of time I have back in my day from not commuting to work and working from home. It’s phenomenal! I used to get up 6.30 to leave the house at 7.30 to be in work for 8.30. Now I get up at 8, do 15 minutes of Yoga, get dressed and start work at 8.30. I get a full 8 hours sleep now as opposed to 7 and go to bed an hour later – it’s amazing. It makes me wonder if this is something we can learn from. Time is the most valuable resource we have and now we are getting ample of it. I don’t want to lose it again.

5. We can actually cook amazing food and therefore we don’t need to be going out as much. Yes, our grocery bill has gone up but on average taking out the socialising, nights out and activities we’ve saved a lot more than we’ve spent. Food for thought…..

They’re the 5 main learnings from this week, looking forward to seeing what next week offers. Remember to try make the most of the time you have, try to take a positive outlook and try not to be worry, this will pass eventually.

What have you learned this week? Share below!
